Sustainable Decks is owned and operated by Ted Labonte, president & licensed general contractor. Ted started his career in construction with siding and deck building, then moved into framing and project management before founding Sustainable Decks. That's who is actually accountable for your permit, your schedule, and your final walkthrough.
- Trex and Fiberon composite decking is manufactured from a high percentage of recycled plastic and reclaimed wood fiber, a smaller footprint than freshly milled lumber, before it even gets to never needing staining.
- Licensed and insured (CS-115640), and registered as MA HIC #220779, which is what gives you access to the state Guaranty Fund.
- One crew, start to finish, we don't sub the job out to whoever's free that week.

In most towns we work in, yes, a structure attached to the house or built more than 30 inches off grade needs a permit and inspection. We confirm the exact threshold for your address before we quote the job.
A standard single-level deck usually runs one to two weeks once material arrives, weather and permit timing aside. Porches, patios, and multi-level decks run longer. You get a real schedule in the proposal, not a range.
Pressure-treated wood costs less up front and needs restaining every two to three years. Composite costs more at install and after that you're mostly just washing it. Over 15 years the math usually favors composite, we'll run the real numbers for your project.
Yes. We offer financing options for larger projects, so the scope of the job isn't limited to whatever fits in savings this month.
We haul away the old material as part of the job. If lumber is still solid, we'll often set it aside for reuse or firewood rather than dumpstering it automatically.
