Custom Deck Building in Hull, MA
Full coastal exposure gets full coastal-grade hardware.
Coastal deck builders in Hull
Hull sits on a narrow peninsula with the ocean on one side and the bay on the other, so exposure comes from both directions rather than one. The ground underneath is a mix of old beach sand and fill, and a good part of town sits where FEMA maps storm waves rather than just standing water. Both change what a footing has to do, which is why our licensed Massachusetts Construction Supervisor decides it from the lot instead of a default.
The four things we do in Hull
Composite, PVC, and wood decks built to hold up through a New England winter, not just loo…
Farmers porches, entryways, screened-in and wraparound porches, framed and roofed to match…
Paver, stone, and concrete patios built on a properly compacted base, so they don't heave …
Vinyl, fiber cement, and cedar siding installation and repair, including fascia, gutters, …
What matters for a build here
Site conditions
Hull is the most coastal town we cover, exposed on both the ocean and bay sides. Salt air and wind-driven exposure factor into hardware and fastener choice on every job here, not just the ones facing the beach directly.
Access
Nantasket Beach traffic and the lack of off-street parking along the peninsula decide when a crew can realistically work. Summer is the constraint, so staging gets booked ahead rather than arranged on the day.
Permits
For a deck or porch attached to the house or built more than 30 inches off grade in Hull, a building permit and inspection generally apply. A standard at-grade patio is usually exempt. We confirm the current requirement for your address before finalizing a quote.
Permitting authority: Hull Building Department
What a peninsula town changes
Artificial fill, beach and dune deposits, salt marsh, thin and thick till and bedrock outcrops are all mapped inside Hull, and fill doesn't bear a footing the way till does. Depth gets confirmed against what's under the lot. Above grade, salt off both the ocean and the bay is why Azek PVC comes up here more than anywhere else we build.

Common questions before hiring
A standard single-level deck usually runs one to two weeks once material arrives, weather and permit timing aside. Porches, patios, and multi-level decks run longer. You get a real schedule in the proposal, not a range.
Pressure-treated wood costs less up front and needs restaining every two to three years. Composite costs more up front and needs only occasional washing. Which one makes sense depends on how long you plan to stay in the house and how much upkeep you actually want to do.
